As summer approaches, the weather is heating up, and so are those grills! In our latest shopper survey on grilling habits, we surveyed shoppers on everything from when they fire up their first burgers to where they shop for their grilling essentials. Let’s dive into these 2025 grilling season shopper insights!
Flavor Favorites: What’s on the Menu This Grilling Season
Shoppers are serving up all kinds of grilled meals, but the food they grill the most often by far is burgers at 40%, followed by steaks (20%) and chicken (18%).
When asked their go-to condiment for grilled foods, 31% of shoppers said barbecue sauce—bring on the smoky flavor! Ketchup came in second at 23%, with mustard, mayo, and relish trailing behind.
Sizzling Shopping Habits: 2025 Insights on Grilling Season Shopping
Before the grill gets going, shoppers need to fill up their carts. When it’s time to stock up on all their grilling necessities, 52% of shoppers head to the grocery store. 21% pick up their essentials at Walmart, and 16% head to their local club store, with others turning to Amazon, Target, or delivery services to prep for their next cookout.
And what are those necessities, besides the protein? 22% of shoppers prioritize the buns and bread for their cookout, followed by beverages at 19%, snacks and chips at 18%, and charcoal and propane at 17%.
When deciding what to purchase, flavor reigns supreme, with 32% of shoppers naming it as the most important factor. Other top considerations include cost (28%), trust in the brand (10%), and clean ingredients (7%). Factors like sales or coupons and recommendations from friends and family have a big impact in why a shopper might choose to try a new grilling product.
Hot Habits: All About Shoppers’ 2025 Grilling Routines
Shoppers love to start grilling as soon as they can, with 40% heating up the grill as soon as it’s warm out. Another 18% typically kick off their grilling season on Memorial Day weekend, and another 9% wait for Fourth of July. A brave 33% of shoppers grill out year-round, rain or shine!
How often are they lighting the flame? The majority of shoppers (31%) grill out a few times a week, followed by 29% who grill out once a week. The most devoted 3% of grilling lovers grill out every day!
And as for their biggest challenge when grilling, 30% of shoppers say it’s timing all the dishes correctly. Another 19% have a hard time dealing with the weather, and 16% struggle to cook food evenly. But don’t worry—23% of shoppers say they have no challenges and it’s all under control!
